The UTC Trumpet and Tuba Ensemble will present a concert on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 PM. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program will consist of a diverse selection of musical styles ranging from an arrangement of a Renaissance march by William Byrd, through a Roccoco style March of C.P.E. Bach, to contemporary pieces for brass groups by composers Eric Ewazen and Seth Jarvis.
The trumpet and tuba/euphonium ensembles provide an opportunity for students who play these instruments to explore more of the literature written for their instruments in a group capacity as opposed to soloing. Playing in ensemble requires additional skill sets not required by soloists such as accompanying, tuning inner voices, and blend. The trumpet ensemble is led by Dr. Erika Schafer, the UTC Assistant Band Director whose own experience in brass ensemble playing uniquely qualifies her for this role. The tuba/euphonium ensemble is led by Dr. Kenyon Wilson, Assistant Professor of low brass who has composed many works for this particular genre and therefore whose ear is keenly attuned to the possibilities of this instrument which is usually relegated to playing only the deepest notes of the loudest passages in symphonic literature.
